Canceling a Deposit

Canceling a deposit is the process of reversing the original entry. When originally recording a deposit the amount of the deposit was entered as a positive number. However, if you need to make an entry to cancel a previously recorded deposit the amount would be entered as a negative. (Put a minus sign [-] in the first position to make the amount a negative number.) The recommended method of canceling a deposit is to reenter the same data as in the original entry, including the same deposit date, but put the word ``CANCELED'' in the description field and make the amount a negative number. If the original deposit entry was made with multiple Line Items you should reverse each Line Item by making the amount a negative number. This will cause the total amount to be restored to the bank account and the amount of each original Line Item to be reversed.
