Editing and Viewing an Account

Once the accounts are created you may review or change the account data by selecting Edit or View Account. On the account number selection widow either enter the Account Number or double click the field to select from a list of available accounts.

You can change the Account Name, Opening Balances, Budget amounts for the account (for preparing income statements which compare actual against budget), and you can change the Net Transactions for any month. You can never change the Account Number or Account Type.

Changing amounts previously posted in the Net Transactions is NOT RECOMMENDED! If you must, be very careful when changing the Net Transactions since if you do not properly adjust the offsetting amount of the original entry you will cause your books to be out of balance. If you must change or correct an amount which has been previously posted to the general ledger accounts you should make the change by creating an entry through the General Journal. Of course, the best approach is to make sure the entries are correct before posting to the general ledger. This is why entries are held in a temporary batch, which can be easily changed until you are sure the entries are correct and exactly as they should be. (See the sections on check and deposit entries for more on making the original entries before posting to the general ledger.)
